Immersion Dance - Exploring Volumetric Capture and Augmentation of Dance Performances
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in May 2016
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
A collaboration between Zubr Virtual Reality and Julia Thorneycroft Dance, Immersion Dance is an Arts Council-funded R&D project using special 3D video cameras to record raw depth capture in dance. Immersion Dance has developed virtual and augmented reality dance choreography designed with ease of use in mind. The project is currently being presented to audiences in care homes, hospitals and schools around Bristol.
Zubr is a virtual reality startup with a focus on creating immersive experiences with 3D scanners and smartphone technology. Julia Thorneycroft Dance is a contemporary dance company with a number of successful live productions under its belt.
In this Lunchtime Talk Jack Norris and Julia Thorneycroft join us to discuss the foundations of the project, trials and tribulations of the recordings, developing the performance and will be followed by an informal hands-on demonstration.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
